Optical tweezing microelectrophoresis: Polymer adsorption and reconformation dynamics on a single microsphere.

Canada / Канада

We report the results of time-resolved electrophoretic mobility measurements during the adsorption of poly(ethylene oxide) onto a single silica microsphere using a novel optical tweezers-microelectrophoresis instrument. The extraordinary short length (micron) and time (second) scales probed in these experiments, as compared to adsorption on macroscale substrates previously reported in literature, reveal adsorption kinetics that depend on polymer conformational changes at the particle surface during the rapid approach to full coverage.
