New multifunctional platform for diagnosis and photodynamic therapy applications.

France / Франция

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a relatively new cytotoxic treatment, mainly used in anti-cancer approaches. PDT combines a photoactive drug (photosensitizer) with a light of an appropriate wavelength and molecular oxygen. The aim of this study was to develop multifunctional hybrid nanoparticles consisting in a surface-localized tumour vasculature targeting unit, a covalently attached photosensitizer for PDT applications and imaging agents for diagnosis. These nanoparticles constitute a promising family for biological use.
