Design of polymer nanosorbents by means of miniemulsion polymerization.

The redox initiation system consisting of ceric ions and carbohydrate-based surfactant Span 60 as the reducing agent has been successfully used for the polymerization of acrylamide and acrylic acid. This initiation system provides a chain nucleation and growth near the interfacial boundaries. As a result, the stable uniform latex with the particles radius of about 50–70 nm, forming micelles in aqueous media, is obtained.
